Maxillary Left Central Incisor (UL1) Root Canal Retreatment – Post Removal

Patient referred for root canal retreatment UL1 to resolve the chronic apical periodontitis.  The crown, post and gutta-percha were removed. Apex locator readings were confirmed radiographically and the canal was chemo-mechanically debrided.

The apical size was gauged at 130 and a mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) plug was placed apically. Back fill was with warm gutta-percha and sealer. A composite resin core was placed in the access cavity and a temporary crown was cemented. A post was not deemed necessary as sufficient coronal dentine remained. The patient was advised to return to the referring dentist for provision of the definitive crown
